My sweet husband!

For well over a year, we have been trying to decide what to put above the sofa in the family room. Should we put up a great piece of art, several pieces, a mirror? What? We are both pretty indecisive about what we put on our walls, but for completely different reasons. I just can never make a decision about anything and change my mind so often, that I keep searching until I am sure it is the perfect piece. My husband, on the other hand, doesn't want to put more nails or screws in the wall than he has to. That never even occurred to me...isn't that what spackle is for?

After months of deliberation, we decided we wanted a massive mirror above the sofa. Now which mirror? Ha ha...the options are endless, as is the price range! I decided to stay a little more on the practical side and try not to fall in love with a thousand dollar mirror. Much to my surprise, I found the absolute perfect mirror at IKEA for only $99! Score! How is that possible? I decide that we should really go look at it to make sure it will work for our space and somehow convince my husband that this is a good idea.

MONGSTAD mirror from IKEA
74 3/4 "w x 37 "h
weight 66lbs

Now to say my husband hates going to Ikea would be a grand understatement! He abhors that place. He feels like he will never make it out of there alive and we usually end up fighting the entire time and then have a silent drive home! I'm not kidding! :)

We see the mirror, agree it is perfect, but decide to continue looking elsewhere for a little while. Why? I have no clue, because getting this man back to the place would be worse than trying to make him watch a girly movie with me.

After weeks and weeks of looking at a million and one other mirrors we decide that the IKEA one really is perfect and so ridiculously cheap that we would be stupid not to get it. Since my husband works down the street from out local IKEA, he says he may just pick it up after work one day...yeah right, I'm thinking. I kept sending him emails with the link to the mirror and telling him its exact location in the store to make the purchase as painless as possible.

Much to my surprise, that mirror was my Mother's Day gift from our pup, Brody!!! Holy crap! I couldn't believe it! Not only did he actually translate my hints into, "I need to get this mirror for my wife!," but he actually braved the place alone!! I was shocked, surprised, and so happy!

Now for the actual hanging of the mirror! Ahahaha!!! I wish we had a video camera for that one! Hilarious! Cursing, sweating, a trip to Home Depot, more cursing...and the mirror was finally up! I love it!!!...and I love my husband for actually pulling off a surprise!

Here it is:

Brody must approve of our choice this time because he didn't bark at all!! :)

I love that mirror, Suzie! And I'm super impressed that your husband actually braved IKEA alone. When I read what you wrote about his hatred for that place and the silent car ride home I can relate to that oh-so much!!!
